For those that might not know, Killzone 2 is one of Sony’s flagship FPS titles for the Playstation 3. Killzone was massively over hyped, touted by people as the “Halo killer” and even “the best shooter ever created;” however, it massively under delivered. So it’s with no surprise that there’s an eagle eye on Guerrilla Games’ mega sequel to deliver on the promises that was set for Killzone all those years ago.
From what we have seen so far thanks to Sony’s Gamer Day, Killzone 2 looks the business, plays the business and even sounds the business, so why the delay? Well according to SCEA’s Ron Eagle, there are no development problems as had been heavily rumored, but it was in fact delayed due to scheduling reasons.
“To be clear, there is nothing wrong or causing a delay to the development of the title. We (SECA) had to look at the fall calendar with SOCOM, LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, Resistance 2, plus some PSN titles and make a decision where each game should come out. Killzone 2 was moved to Feb 2009 to make sure we didn’t have three shooters in the marketplace competing for retail dollars during the same holiday season.”
So in other words, they don’t want to spoil sales of both Killzone 2 and Resistance by pitting them up against each other which makes perfect business sense. Still, it’s obvious Playstation 3 owners won’t be too happy, but they can’t really complain much when you have MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, SOCOM, Resistance 2 and LittleBigPlanet all coming out this holiday season.
