Recent reports from the Codemasters forums speak of a number of issues plaguing the 360 version of Race Driver: GRiD. Among the issues is an apparent fault in certain models of the 360’s hard drive, and GRiD’s Executive Producer Gavin Raeburn has communicated the development team’s frustration with the problems. "We have put in hundreds of thousands of hours testing this game on a couple of hundred different Xbox’s," he told one frustrated customer, "and did not see this problem once. Microsoft did not see it either in the Cert sub and following two subs we did with them. We also didn’t see any issue on the special glass master we had cut to test the release build before Cert submission. We also didn’t see it on the Silvers we had back from Microsoft prior to duplication."

Codemasters has already begun to search for a solution, but reproducing the in-game stuttering caused by the hard drive faults has been difficult. "We’ve been testing the retail disks on a number of 360s at team members’ homes, but still no problem," said Raeburn. "The fact that this doesn’t happen in the demo and is resolved when the hard drive is removed is a great help to us and will certainly help with a fix and back up workaround." The current workaround requires players to transfer all Gamertag information to a memory card, and to disconnect the problematic hard drive before restarting the game; the team itself and several members of the Codemasters forums have confirmed this method as successful, albeit inconvenient.

In the meantime, Codemasters has asked that players help them by running this simple test. Whatever your result, let Codemasters know by posting a response in either the official Codemaster thread or the TGR forums.
