Oh Haze, what a turbulent life you’ve led. First, there was the whole exclusivity fiasco, with fanboys on both sides engaging on the "no it isn’t," "yes, it is" tug of war. Then, it turns out all that doesn’t matter because you’re actually a pretty crappy game. Well Haze, your life story just got a little sadder, as the newest GameStop ads proudly proclaim that you can be purchased for the discounted price of $39.99.
It has to be sad for developers to see a game they worked so hard on and put so much effort into get completely panned by critics and sit idly on store shelves, especially when titles like Gears of War and BioShock still fetch a higher price for used copies than what a brand new version of Haze now costs.
It’s unclear at this point whether GameStop is acting unilaterally to clear up inventory, or if Ubisoft has greenlit a price drop just to try and cut losses on the game. Problem is, even at a discounted price, I’m not too sure of many people who are going to buy it. I have a hard time recommending any game that’s sitting on a Metacritic score of 56, regardless of how hyped it was before launch. But, I guess if you’ve got an extra $40 lying around, really need and FPS, and have played every other shooter on the PS3 then... well, no, never mind. You should spend that money on something else, anything else really, just not Haze.
