We reported earlier to you that during Microsoft’s RPG event in Japan earlier in the month that Square Enix’s new RPG The Last Remnant would be getting released first on the Xbox 360. Many people were wondering if Microsoft paid for a timed exclusive or was it in fact a development issue. During an interview with GameSpy, Square-Enix clarified the reason behind the delay on the PS3 version of the game.
When asked why the PS3 version was delayed, Square-Enix said, "This is mainly for development reasons. We’re developing the game using the middleware Unreal Engine, and the Unreal Engine has a slower development on the PS3 side. It was only really workable after Unreal Tournament was published, so this was mainly a development decision.”
Again, Unreal Engine problems on the development side of the Playstation 3 have caused the delay. We have heard many developers stating that development takes longer on the PS3 with the Unreal Engine; games have been cancelled due to it. The Xbox 360 version of the game will ship this winter in all regions. Be sure to check back to TheGameReviews.com for all your Last Remnant needs.
