Square-Enix today confirmed that they will be showcasing Final Fantasy XIII at E3 next month, though you can rest assured it will only be in trailer form, and not playable. A Square-Enix rep stoked the fanboy fires by stating, "There’s going to be more things happening for XIII at E3, that’s all I can say at the moment. And throughout the year there’s more things planned as well, which should shed more light on the release timings."
Shed light on release timings, eh? Well that’s a juicy little morsel right there. Could this mean that the game is far enough along that the expected release changes from "eventually" to "sometime in the next 4 years?" Square-Enix games in general, and FF titles in particular, are notorious for delays, so I plan to take any release announcements at E3 or otherwise with a very large grain of salt. Generally, if you take the release date mentioned by Square-Enix and then add about 3 years, you’ve usually got a pretty safe bet for when the game will actually come out.
Regardless of what form it’s in, stick with us right here as we cover FF XIII and all the other great games live at next month’s E3. All sorts of delicious gaming goodness will be coming your way, and we’ll be your waiter, bringing you all the freshest morsels and tastiest choices from the show floor.
