Metal Gear Solid 4 is quite the critical darling. Reviewers the world over have been charmed by the series’ swan song, and have rewarded Kojima and company with high praise pretty much all across the board. The game has a Metacritic average of 95/100, making it the second-highest rated console exclusive of the current generation. The only game more beloved is the Wii’s Super Mario Galaxy, which has scored an overall rating of 97/100.

With its ranking, MGS 4 has earned a higher slot than Gears of War (94/100), Halo 3 (94/100), and Super Smash Bros. Brawl (94/100). It is also currently tied with The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, which also received a Metacritic score of 95/100.

The game also fares well among non-exclusive titles, managing to garner a ranking even higher than the acclaimed Call of Duty 4 (94/100). Even with their stature though, neither Snake nor Mario can best Niko Bellic, as Grand Theft Auto 4 leads all challengers with a Metacritic score of 98/100.
