We all knew that Kojima’s masterpiece Metal Gear Solid 4 would sell bucket loads across the world and finally cement the Playstation 3 among hardcore gamers, but what we didn’t know is how fast the game would sell. Konami has announced today that Metal Gear Solid 4 has sold over 1 million units across Europe in its first week, a tremendous achievement to say the least.

“The Metal Gear Solid series has again proved its huge potential, and we are delighted with the fantastic response the game has enjoyed at retail,” said Martin Schneider, Sales and Marketing Director at Konami Germany. “MGS4 is nothing short of a masterpiece – an epic conclusion to the Solid Snake story. We are extremely pleased with the positive feedback we have received from retail and consumers alike, and will keep satisfying their needs with updates to the game’s ‘Extra’ option, and via new content to Metal Gear Online.”

No numbers are yet released on how this impacted European Playstation 3 sales numbers, but if Japan is any indication, Sony and Konami are in for a treat.
