During the Sony E3 press conference on Tuesday, Jack Tretton announced that the 80GB Playstation 3 will be replacing the 40GB PS3 this fall in the USA. Many Europeans thought would this also be happening in Europe, and Eurogamer received confirmation from Sony that the 80GB PS3 will also be replacing the 40GB in Europe. The price will be the same as the current 40GB, which is GBP 299.99 and EUR 399.99 and will be made available for all, apart from Russia, on August 27th. Russia, according to Eurogamer, will receive it two weeks later. SCEE President David Reeves had this to say:
" The 80GB replaces the 40GB. Please do not ask me if we’re going to go down in price for the 40GB because I will give you the answer, the answer is no. We will be doing promotional bundles from the middle of September to the end of December at various prices."
Word has it that the 80GB will not be backward compatible and will have all the same features as the 40GB model. More news as we get it.
