Criterion Games has taken quite a few risks with their latest Burnout title, nearly all of which have only made the experience more enjoyable for gamers. First off, the team started promising regular, free updates which would offer tons of new content, and they’ve already delivered on two of them so far. The Bogart and Cagney updates have added a ton of new challenges, modes, and vehicles to an already deep game, and the upcoming Davis update promises to throw motorcycles and night driving into the mix. Now, the team is taking it one step further, prepping a digital version of the game for those who prefer downloads to discs.

Criterion has announced that they will be bringing Burnout Paradise to the PSN this fall, and users can download the full game, plus all updates and Trophy support for $29.99. This marks the first time a full retail release on a new-gen console has been later made available for download, though it may signal a shift in Sony’s approach toward game distribution.

We don’t yet have a release date for the new version, but since it’s slated to include motorcycles, it will likely debut either alongside or after the Davis update. We’ll keep you posted on any further developments, but in the meantime, start freeing up hard drive space to make room for the download and install. Might we recommend getting rid of those Lair game saves?
