Final Fantasy XII is a must buy for any J-RPG fan. The game, which was once a PlayStation 3 exclusive, is now also going to be premiering on the 360-- only not in Japan. When Microsoft announced that Final Fantasy XIII would not be released in Japan, it wasn’t that much of a surprise. But when they announced that it would be making it to other Asian markets, such as Taiwan, that raised an eyebrow. What is the point of bringing it to Taiwan and not Japan when Japan clearly has a bigger market? This lead to speculation of Microsoft announcing the Final Fantasy XIII will eventually be making it to Japan, but this is not the case. The confusion actually pushes on even further because now, according to Japanese Playstation magazine, Dengeki, the 360 version is not coming to Japan. Here is a direct quote:
“There will absolutely not be an Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII for Japan.”
A short but concise answer. While it is not a direct quote from Microsoft, it looks like Japanese 360 owners won’t be able to play Final Fantasy on their 360. A weird decision, yes, but maybe there are details that we don’t know, such as Sony paying to keep exclusivity in Japan or Microsoft only agreeing to pay enough to bring it to the selected countries. Maybe we’ll never know, but if we hear anything on it, we’ll let you know.
