If you’re one of the lucky folks who have been jumping, grabbing and creating for the past couple weeks as a part of the LittleBigPlanet, beta then you’ve no doubt grown attached to some of the tremendous user-created levels that have already sprung up. Originally, the plan was to hit the LittleBig delete button when the full retail game came out, thus starting all over from scratch, but it appears as though Media Molecule has changed its mind, and will instead opt to allow all the currently-existing levels to stick around.
The announcement comes directly from the mouth of Media Molecule co-founder Alex Evans, so we know this decision is a done deal. The official LBP site is currently running a poll asking if users want to save the beta levels or start over from scratch, and thus far an overwhelming majority (81%) say that everyone’s hard work needs to stick around. Looks like this is one case where the developers and the community at large are on the same page, and there are going to be a lot of happy people when the game officially launches later this month.
I’ve been able to spend a little time with the LBP beta and I have to say, it’s truly amazing what some people have come up with. When I look at the creativity and ingenuity on display by some of these people I am utterly amazed by what I see. From levels themed on other games like Gears of War and Shadow of the Colossus, to completely original creations, the scope and depth of content is truly breathtaking. There are already ten full pages of really impressive content available on the beta, and this is just a tiny fraction of what the game’s overall audience is going to be. Mark my words, even if you don’t plan on ever creating a thing, if you own a PS3 you need to buy this game just to see what other people can do. It’s simply incredible.
