Activision and GGL released information today regarding their dual sponsorship of The Ultimate Mercenary Tournament which will be played within Activision’s FPS Soldier of Fortune: Payback title. The highest scorer in the competition will receive, in addition to the automatic bragging rights winning such a contest automatically bestows, $15,000 dollars in cash and a trip to New York City with all bills paid by Activision. The training competitions for the tournament commence today with the qualifying rounds to start early next year in January of 2008.

Success in the Ultimate Mercenary Tournament will be determined by winnning matches in single(one on one) and team play(four on four) contests played in online multiplayer games. Those who succeed in getting to the top of the ladder will be flown to New York City in Feburary to compete in the Ultimate Mercenary Tournament which will be televised on Voom GamePlay HD.
