PSN Update: 1-03-08
Posted by Relin, 252 days ago Jan 3, 2008 19:53

After a short break for the holidays, Sony is back with their weekly PSN update.  No new games were released (I’m looking at you, Wipeout HD), but a veritable feast of musical content has been offered up for both Guitar Hero III and Rock Band, as well as a new playable demo.  Let’s take a look.

NFL Tour ’09 Demo

It’s just too early in 2008 to be playing games for the 2009 year, but EA doesn’t seem to mind.  NFL Tour ’09 pits NFL teams against each other in arena football matches, along with some clunky controls and a reaction-based system for breaking tackles.  Not a bad play by any stretch of the imagination, but we won’t be expecting too much from this title.

Guitar Hero III/ Rock Band Add-ons

Red Octane and Harmonix have been busy since the releases of their hit music-simulation games, and like many weeks previous, both have accosted gamers with even more ways to spend their pocket change.  Guitar Hero III got four new tracks:  "Ernten Was Wir Saen" by Die Fantastischen, "Antisocial" by Trust, "So Payaso" by Extremoduro, and a small song pack featuring Linkin Park, Mastodon, and The Used.

Rock Band is no different, with eight new tracks for download:  "Attack" and "The Kill" by 30 Seconds to Mars, "Dirty Little Secret" and "Move Along" by All-American Rejects, "Song With a Mission" by The Sounds, "Limelight" by Rush, "Hard to Handle" by The Black Crowes, and "Gimme Three Steps" by Lynard Skynard.

Need for Speed ProStree Add-ons

Instead of playing the game and unlocking the plethora of vehicles available, EA has given players the opportunity to pay for immediate use of these vehicles.  Lame as that may sound, a second string of cars has made its way onto the PSN for between $1.99 and $2.49 USD.  Grab a Shelby GT500, a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo, a Dodge Viper SRT10, a BMW M3 E92, a Chevy Corvette X06 or Camaro concept, or a Ford GT.

At the bottom of the list is a short trailer for the Japanese release of Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, which should be released in the US in the coming months.  Until next week...
