Activision announced today that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare title was the #1 selling title in terms of copies sold worldwide, according to data gathered by the NPD Group, Chart Track, and the GFK Group. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has received numerous accolades since its release in November of 2007, having scored over 18 perfect score reviews and more then 40 combined Editors’ Choice and Game of the Year awards. In addition, Call of Duty 4 is the #1 Xbox 360 title played on Xbox Live among users according to www.majornelson.com.

The Senior Vice President of Global Brand Management at Activision, Will Kassoy, stated that the company was “very excited about this achievement, especially given so many competitive titles this year.” Mr. Kassoy also added that “consumer and critics agree that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is one of the best games ever created and further establishes Call of Duty as one of the premier brands in the industry” and also promised that “this ground-breaking game and franchise continue to establish new standards by which all other action games will be judged."

This is not surprising. The campaign is a nice balance of linear story plot and the ability for free play.  I’ve yet to play the multiplayer online, am looking forward to it when I can get my ISP broadband upgrade.
