IBM has recently announced that they have created a smaller more efficient cell processor for the Sony PlayStation 3. The current Cell BE Processor, which measured in at 65 nm was introduced late last year and is already being replaced by IBM’s 45nm version.
If implemented, the new cell processor could result in cheaper more efficient PS3 systems, which is always nice, considering how amazingly expensive they currently are. In addition to this, there has also been word of an upgraded Blu-ray laser tentatively slated for the end of this year, which could also contribute to a price reduction.
