You may have noticed something different today when you fired up your Playstation 3. There was a prompt for you to download a new firmware update from 2.10 to 2.17. Things have been rather quite lately on the firmware front and it took everyone by surprise.
So what exactly does this firmware update do? Well, to put it simply, it stabilizes the operating of some of the Playstation 3’s online titles. So hopefully now you won’t be getting kicked out of COD 4 matches as often or be unable to connect to them in the first place.
There was a rumor going round that had a few people getting excited, me included, that there was an Easter egg lurking around. Some mistranslation from the Japanese Playstation 3 home website had everyone thinking that you were now able to download Playstation 2 games to your PS3’s hard drive to play. This would of come as great news for the 40GB owners, but sadly this was not the case. All it meant was you were now able to install PS2 games that required and install in the first place: games like Final Fantasy XI would now work fine on the 40GB models.
Nothing to get too excited about. Hopefully the next one will come with a Home beta. Stay tuned to TGR for all your Playstation 3 needs.
