Sony and Polyphony Digital will have a reason to feel cheerful today, as Gran Turismo 5 Prologue has taken the pole position in the all format chart for the UK. What makes this even more of an accomplishment is that the game is only a teaser demo of the real thing that will be coming out early 2009. Prologue has also become the fastest selling Playstation 3 game to date.

Prologue did enough to ensure that Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2 dropped to number two in the charts. Mario and Sonic at the Olympics dropped to third place, and with the recent release of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 on the Wii, Konami’s football sim jumped seven places to fourth.

Guitar Hero III enjoyed another strong week of sales to come in fifth while SEGA’s strong marketing push helped SEGA’s superstar Tennis climb four places to sixth.

The biggest drop of the week is Call of Duty 4, dropping four places to seventh, and the second highest new game, Viking: Battle for Asgard, came in at number 8.
