Konami Delays Metal Gear Online Beta for Europe and America
Posted by predator, 98 days ago Apr 21, 2008 15:03

Many of you may be wondering why you were unable to connect to the Metal Gear Online beta this morning. After the headache of trying to acquire a Konami ID from the official MGO website, it seems Konami weren’t prepared for the flood of users who would try and connect to the Metal Gear Online beta late last night. Well it seems the Japanese will be the only ones lucky enough to play the beta for the time being, as it has officially been delayed for Europe and America.

According to the company, the massive interest in the beta and therefore heavy traffic was too much for Konami’s servers to run at the levels expected. Writing on the official Metal Gear Online website Konami said:

“We would like to thank all players for their keen interest in taking part in the beta test.
However, we regret to inform you that due to extraordinary levels of traffic from all around the globe, we have been unable to run the service to the level we expected.
As a temporary measure, we will be suspending the European public beta test and restart it once we stabilize our server.
We would like to apologize for all inconveniences as well as confusion caused.

We would like to add that due to the above reasons, we will be making the following changes to the schedule:

1) Suspend beta test: As of 21/04/2008 08:00(CEST)
2) Restart date: TBA. We will be making another announcement on 22/04/2008 08:00(CEST)
3) Beta Test closure: This will now be on 11/05/2008 at 24:00(CEST) rather than 06/05/2008 at 24:00(CEST)”

One thing is for certain Konami really dropped the ball regarding this whole program. After the mess that was Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 multiplayer functions, one may think that Konami would have learned. Being such a high-powered and well-financed developer, the money should be there to create an online functionality that actually works. From Konami’s ID site crashing with players unable to obtain an ID, to the actual Metal Gear Online Beta delay, Konami have a lot of making up to do to their very unhappy fans.
