Sony could finally have an answer to Microsoft’s popular and very successful Xbox Live Video Marketplace. Microsoft has seen great success with the service, and it looks like Sony wants in on the action. This is all according to the LA Times quoting anonymous “Studio executives familiar with the plan.” According to the LA Times, Sony is in the process of licensing talks with studio bosses with plans on bringing TV programs and Movies to the Playstation 3 via the Playstation Network.
The report comes off the back of Sony marketing boss Peter Dille, who spoke of the service on the Playstation Blog: “Many of you have been hearing rumblings about a video service that will allow you to download full-length TV shows and movies via PlayStation Network for North America”
He went on to say "While I don’t have any new announcements here for the PlayStation Nation, it’s already been confirmed that we’ll be offering a video service for PS3 in a way that separates the service from others you’ve seen or used. Ultimately the goal of the PlayStation Network service will be to break through the overwhelming clutter of digital media to give you the TV, movies and gaming content you want."
Dille promises “more information soon”. So it’s a given that we will be seeing a rival to video marketplace on Xbox Live, It will have to be something to outshine Microsoft’s service with Disney, Paramount, Warner Bros, Nickelodeon, ABC and many more already offering Movies and TV shows on the MS service. Be sure to check back for more information as we get it.
