Sony today has announced its ful- year financial results for the 2007 financial year and with that came the all-important Playstation 3 sales figures. From the 12-month period that ended March 31st, 2008, Sony sold 9.24 million Playstation 3 units, taking the worldwide sales tally to 12.85 million units sold, compared to the 24.4 million Nintendo Wii’s and the nearly 20 million Xbox 360’s sold worldwide.
What’s more interesting is the fact that the Playstation 2 keeps on selling, even better than its successor, selling 13.75 million units worldwide. Although half the price, it’s still a staggering amount sold considering the out-of-date hardware the Playstation 2 is packing. The other Sony gaming platform, PSP, goes from strength to strength with 13.89 million units sold worldwide.
Sony expect the Playstation 3 to sell 10 million units this financial year, 9 million Playstation 2’s and 15 million PSP’s. The PS3 forcast is the same estimate Sony gave last year, which does not show any significant growth.
